From a Milkweed Problem to a Governed Evidence Standard.

POLLi® began with a much narrower challenge than the one it solves today: reliably identifying common milkweed, the plant monarch butterflies depend on, from aerial imagery. Counting it by hand was slow, inconsistent, and hard to repeat across people, seasons, and sites.

Getting it right meant building a process imagery could be trusted to hold up, not just to a single reviewer's eye, but to real scrutiny. Early on, that work took shape alongside conservation partners, including staff from Monarch Joint Venture, who helped inform what a defensible monitoring approach needed to look like.

More than a decade of remote sensing experience before POLLi's founding surfaced a major flaw in how imagery was being collected and used: it wasn't built to be trusted, repeated, or checked. That flaw shaped how POLLi was built. Standardized collection, traceability back to the source image, and expert review aren't extra steps. They're what make a finding something an organization can actually rely on later.

That same path, from scattered images to a governed, repeatable evidence standard, is what every POLLi® customer walks today, whatever they're monitoring.

Managing rights-of-way well starts with cost and efficacy, keeping corridors clear, compliant, and affordable to maintain. One of the most meaningful benefits of doing that well is what it makes possible for integrated habitat management.

Rights-of-way run across the globe like arteries, necessary for commerce, power, and infrastructure. Managed with precision, they can also become corridors for pollinators and wildlife, and barriers against the spread of invasive species. The opportunity has always been there. What's been missing is a way to manage toward it with any consistency or accountability. That's what POLLi is built to make possible.

We've built the foundation for that work at global scale, so no utility, oil and gas company, or government entity has to build that discipline from scratch on its own. What POLLi provides is the same standardized approach everywhere, not shared data or shared know-how between customers. Nothing moves between organizations unless they choose to share it themselves.

There's also a security benefit built into how this works: collecting, processing, and evaluating imagery happens outside an organization's critical infrastructure systems, so vegetation evidence never has to touch the networks that actually run the grid, the pipeline, or the road.
